Marketing & customer focus
Whilst
Martyn has a professional marketing background he has worked
extensively in the fields of human resource management, business
strategy and project management.
He
has an excellent and up-to-date knowledge of modern technologies
and of the roles that they can play in 21st century organisations
facing the twin challenges of increased change and the quest
for greater efficiency and effectiveness - better customer/
consumer focus.
The tailored practical approach
Martyn
has three guiding principles when working with Clients:
Firstly
that any programme or project must be tailored to the Client's
particular needs; there is no "one-size/style fits all" approach;
presentations, workshop formats, case studies, consultancy services,
research and evaluation projects are all individually designed
to match specific Client needs.
Next,
that projects and programmes will be highly practical, focussing
on real situations, real issues, real problems - seeking real
solutions. Key objectives agreed with the Client at the outset
will shape the design and delivery of the products and services
provided - be they knowledge platforms, learning materials,
projects, or research and evaluation initiatives.
Finally,
all work, activities and interventions are evaluated in detail
- by the participants, by the key managers responsible for the
programmes and by senior management in line with their overall
business and development strategies. A succinct strategic report
is delivered back to Clients when each project/programme ends.
Knowledge management & e-learning
Martyn
has a particular interest in Knowledge Management and E-Learning,
how these can be applied within organisations to help achieve
greater overall efficiency and effectiveness, and in particular
how they can be used to provide better service to the customers/consumers
of those organisations. He has designed and built a number of
knowledge and e-learning platforms for businesses, educational
institutions and recently for a Health Authority. In 1998 he
developed the strategic concept for the "KnowledgeDock", a major
new regional initiative covering the Thames Gateway area of
the UK. In 1999 he was also instrumental in introducing the
first on-line learning platform into a UK Local Authority.
He is to undertake a Doctorate in Knowledge Management and Learning
at the University of Greenwich where with the support of specialist
faculties he can also offer consultancy and research facilities
through Henley's Accredited Associate network.
Project management, management development & innovation
From 1996 -2000 as Director of the University of East London's
Business Development Centre, he managed over 15 separate projects
ranging between £50k and £1.5m., the majority of these focusing
on the provision of specially designed knowledge and e-learning
platforms for many and varied groups of organisations and individuals
- local, national and international.
He pioneered the University's partnership in a major Senior
Management Development programme focusing on the Management
of Change within a large London Borough (8,000 employees).
In 1998/99 he won the prestigious DHL/Docklands Business Club
Innovation Award. He also taught Change and Change Management,
Innovation, Marketing and Human Resource Management to students
and to professionals working in a variety of organisations and
sectors (including IPD, Institute of Management, NHS, Unison,
Local Authorities)
Change & change management
During
his time as a Senior Manager in Finance and Banking in the mid-late
'80s and the early 1990s he managed/mentored a number of challenging
high-profile change management initiatives. Upon gaining his
MBA through Henley Management College in the mid-90s he worked
as a Learning, Research and Change consultant with the College,
handling a number of large projects addressing the management
of change and the deployment of IT in large organisations. He
wrote and published Case Studies on Organisational Change, presenting
a number of these at international conferences in the USA and
throughout Europe. In 2001 he worked with various parts of the
UK National Health Service providing consultancy, advice and
training in Management of Change and also developed tailored
Change and Project Management modules that now reside on a newly
created NHS Knowledge platform www.healthknoweldge.org.uk.
